Women in Business ft. Self-Care Enthusiast Tara Jefferson

Type 4 Naturals highlights women entrepreneurs who own their own company and have a story to share. Today we introduce you to self-care enthusiast Tara Jefferson. She has a passion for helping women to put themselves first. Founder and Chief Curator of The Bloom Beautifully Box, Tara shows us that we can’t be our best selves if we don’t care or treat ourselves with a priority with encouragement and clarity.

Tell us about your business.

The Bloom Beautifully Box is a bimonthly self-care subscription box for busy women. Each box contains 4-5 of #LifesLittleLuxuries that tend to your mind, body and spirit. We’ve carried everything from art journals to bath bombs to specialty teas! Every box is like a deep exhale.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur?

I became an entrepreneur because I just didn’t fit in at the traditional office setting. I wanted to be able to come and go as I pleased and have more flexibility in my life for my two children. I adore having the freedom to craft my own future. It’s scary at times, but I’m learning to ride the wave instead of fighting against it.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

My peers inspire me so much. Myleik Teele of CurlBox is a big inspiration, as she was one of the first black women I saw having successful in this market. My friend Charreah Jackson, an editor at Essence magazine, is always on the go, inspiring women through her travels around the globe. I adore her.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Launching a national self-care retreat in 2015 (with my second taking place this year)! It was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. What if no one bought a ticket? What if they got there and it was a dud? Luckily both of those fears went unrealized and we had a magnificent time. Demand is high with the second one.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

It’s taken me years to learn that I have to take the long view. Overnight success simply isn’t a thing. It takes time to hone your talents, perfect your marketing and churn out must-have products. Put the work in and your effort will not betray you.

Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.

Right now just about all my focus is on this subscription box. My goal is to make each one better than the last and that the women who receive it feel like each shipment is Christmas!

What is a goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

I hope to continue to grow this business and perhaps expand the line into maternity boxes, new mom boxes, a “BFF” box, etc. The sky is the limit, which excites me so much!

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I like to travel and bring along a good book. I also love to bake but I have to give away the finished product or otherwise I’ll eat the whole thing!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

That a self-care subscription box is the perfect present to self 😉 Interested readers can use code TYPE4NATURALS for 15% off for their first box and shipping is always free!

I love this, I already know I don’t take care of myself enough. I try, but I don’t know that I’m doing such a great job. I love that she said “Put the work in and your effort will not betray you.”
