I had the chance to go to a group pole instruction this weekend and absolutely loved it. My girlfriends and I trekked over to Harlem to stop in to La Femme Suite. The place is very nice, it has non-intimidating lighting, several poles and great music to dance to. They also offer packages, my group had wine, cupcakes and fruit in ours. 🙂
To begin the class we started with a sexy warmup, we stretched and rolled our necks, hips and shoulders in ways that would make anyone blush. After the warm-up you could feel the excitement build, we were about to become one with our poles! After we were warmed up for the work to come, we were taught how to do a sultry walk to the pole and then grasp the pole with confidence. I liked that part, I had a chance to let out my inner sexy diva. Once we had the sultry walk down we added in some sexy floor work, pole slides and my favorite the “Around the world” spin on the pole.
Many people think that pole dancers don’t do any work, that they just look sexy and magically hold themselves up on the pole and do tricks, but there is so much more to it than that. I consider myself to be in shape and love to go to the gym; so I can say pole dancing is NOT easy. For example if you wish to climb up the pole you need upper-body and core strength. Can you climb to the top of the pole without a struggle? That’s great, but to get off the pole you have to slide down and exit the pole in a sexy manner, which requires lower body strength or you risk falling at the bottom of the pole. 🙁
The next day after the pole dancing session my whole body was sore, I truly did get a workout. Besides the workout, pole dancing will give you a great boost of sexy confidence. It was a lot of fun and since I have been bored lately with my workouts I will add in some more pole dancing sessions to spice things up.
